It s the perfect destination if you enjoy country landscapes peppered with pretty villages, food markets, and heritage sites. The surrounding area is jam packed with outdoor pursuits. Along with spectacular hikes, you can hop on two wheels or travel by horseback along country lanes and a rolling landscape. The local village has family friendly activities too including a playground and tennis courts. Watch butterflies and birdlife at Smardale Gill nature reserve (3.5 miles); set on an old railway line with the backdrop of a viaduct, it s made for memorable holiday photos. Step inside the hallway where you re greeted with contemporary style interiors, harmonising with gorgeous original features from flagstone floors to exposed timber beams. Wander into the living room and cosy up on the sofa or your favourite armchair by the warming wood burner after a long jaunt on the hills.
