Dorchester, the inspiration for Thomas Hardy's "Casterbridge," is approximately 7 miles distant, and along the coast you can stop by the Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens. You may also just go to West Bay; the scenery along the Dorset Heritage Coast is breath-taking.
