The thriving town centre is filled with a nice selection of local shops, bars, and cafes, while Hornsea Mere, the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, is close by and provides boat rides, sailing, and fishing. Hornsea Freeport is popular for shopping, whilst Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve can be reached in just over half an hour's drive, offering one of the largest mainland puffin populations in Britain. Wassand Hall and walled gardens are nearby, and Hornsea makes a wonderful home base for exploring the Yorkshire Wolds, North York Moors, and East Riding coastal destinations. Within a short distance are the historic city of York, Beverley with its renowned gothic cathedral, and The Deep in Hull.
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
