Mentioned in the Doomesday Book Yarpole boasts an award-winning village shop - the first full time shop in a church! Just a short walk from the village is Bircher Common, an area of lowland heath offering lovely views of the surrounding Marches, ideal for enjoying the peace and tranquility of the area. Close by, enjoy an afternoon visit to the Monkland Cheese Dairy, a working dairy producing and selling local, artisan cheeses, as well as offering a well-stocked shop and cafe. Leominster, dating back to the 7th century, possesses some fine examples of architecture including the Priory Church, along with a wide variety of shops, cafes, antique centres and pubs – it’s an ideal place to spend an afternoon.
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
