The town of Castle Douglas is in the southwest of Scotland, in Dumfries and Galloway. It is known as the 'Food Town' with independent food shops, as well as a range of pubs and restaurants. The town provides access to the Solway Coast, with its beaches and fishing villages. Carlingwark Loch lies south of the town, a lake great for fishing and sailing. The loch hosts a selection of small islands. Hop aboard a boat and venture to Threave Castle, perched on an island in the River Dee, and explore the gardens on the estate, open all year round.
